February 2020.
This was during the time of the teacher’s union strike and I was trying to figure out what God wanted me to do. It wasn’t as cut and dried as I had always thought. I never thought I would go on strike because I believe in submitting to authority. However, I also believed in what the union was trying to accomplish for the teachers concerning evaluations. My peers at work wanted it but many of my Christian and church friends and family thought it was wrong to strike. It was a tough tough time. I lost sleep but learned alot!
This post also has a bit of Bible study in it! Very often when we seek God He will use specific scripture to guide us!!
From the journal September 2011
Oh My Lord. How sweetly You come to me. As I was writing and pondering, this verse came to me “Christ in you – the hope of Glory”. * How significant! You living and being in me is my hope. And I cried. *Col 1:27KJV
And I believe God said:
I love you. I am in you. I am your defender. You are My child and you are My bride. Whatever touches you touches the apple of My eye*. Stay the course, this is hard enough for you without Me having you do the opposite of what you believe in. Continue to love. Continue to seek peace. Trust Me in you. *Your hope of glory.
Zech 2:8. Col 1:27
Thank You Jesus. Lord, is it my hope of Your Glory? My glory would be silly but Your’s would be glory indeed. Well, I was thinking of that verse and I thought suddenly, “Where is it? I think it’s in Colossians”. And where am I reading these days?? Colossians! I go to chapter 2 where I left off and what do I read? Not that verse but the second part of Col 2:2 reads . . .
“…I want them to have complete confidence that they understand God’s mysterious plan- which is Christ Himself’’. Col 2:2 NLT
You Lord. It’s about YOU! And me understanding that You live in me.
” In Him lie hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge” Col 2:3b
They are hidden but as I am intimate with You, they are revealed.
“Just as You accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to follow Him.” Col 2:6
I’m reminded of when I accepted You. Your spirit and mine were joined together to give me rebirth.
“Let Your roots grow down into Him.” Col 2:7a
To suck up everything about God.
“So you also are complete through your union with Christ.” Col 2:10a
Lord, You have taught me scripture. As I read it, You teach me. I trust You to teach me. . . So if I cross that picket line because it may or may not be against the law, then I am hurting those You have called me to love and also going against my belief in what is right concerning the evaluations. Thank You Lord. I’m trusting You.
February 2020. I don’t have a definitive answer concerning strikes, unions, submitting to or going against authority. I do know that I was desperate for His direction in this case and I believe He graciously lead me in the way I should go.
