When You Take the Last Cookie

August 2020

When my kids were little, I would sometimes hear one say to another, “Oh you just want to have your own way.” I think there’s a real logic to that. Of course you want your own way. That’s what makes it your ‘own’. It doesn’t mean you need to insist on your own way but the wanting it is natural. It might also be someone else’s way. It’s not necessarily a bad thing.  Sometimes your own way is for the good of everyone else. Sometimes it could even be God’s way.  However, sometimes it’s clearly only to your advantage and you need to rethink before acting on it!!

From the journal . . . . November 2009

Lord, my son and daughter-in-law are thinking about adopting a child from another country.   Please lead them.  It doesn’t strike me right but it doesn’t have to, for it to be Your leading.  Jesus, I do fervently want Your leading for them in this. Please bless them and lead them. Personally, I’d kinda like them to have one more of their own.  Maybe a son. Is that a selfish desire?

And I Believe God Said:

It is selfish because it is what you, your self, wants.  It isn’t a sinful desire.  It isn’t a bad desire.  The sinful selfish is when you act in accordance with it and it’s against the desires of others*  and is apart from My will.  When you take the last cookie, knowing that  your husband wants it, that is the ‘selfish’ that needs to be dealt with.

Phil 2:3 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourself.

Thank you Lord.  I commend B & J to You. Thank You that they want to care for orphans and needy children.  That is a good thing.  I’m so grateful for their little Cutie Pie and I’d love to see a son of my son’s but, more than that, I want Your will for them.

God’s plans are always best and we are so grateful for His leading!   He has blest that family with 3 boys and another girl!  We have delighted in each one and rejoice in His gifts to our family!  Adoption was God’s plan all along for them. It was also God’s plan, from the beginning, for the Gentiles to become part of His family!*

*Eph. 1:4-5. Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes. God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure. NLT
