Have you ever wondered why God put all those long lists of people in the Bible? He says that our names are written in the Lambs Book of Life if we belong to Him. I make lists of names so I don’t forget them, but I don’t think God has that problem. He says He doesn’t forget. Knowing names is usually the first step in a relationship and relationships are very important to God. There must be something to it!
From the journal . . . . May 2018
I had been wondering about a time of sharing for a women’s luncheon at church. I had asked a woman to share but she had to cancel.
“I could share and share any of the wonderful things You have revealed to me. I know that if I look in Your word, You often bring revelation.” I thought of His Word speaking to me and questioned, ‘Even genealogies?’ “
And I Believe God Said:
Histories. People lived and died, more people lived and died, and more people lived and died. Each individual soul that is mentioned in My Word has a part to play in history.* Diane, as you pray for your former students, you remember them. You aren’t involved with their lives now but you were. Daily they were important and significant to you. You prayed, you taught, you loved, you enjoyed and you lamented over them. I am involved with each of My people like that, but I am omnipresent and I connect with their souls. For those who welcome Me, My holy spirit resides there.* I am 100% for them while they live. Genealogies aren’t your idea of a story but they are history. Within them are myriads of stories and testimonies.
Eph 2:8-10. 2 Tim 3:16 John 16:7
Then a song on Pandora came on singing ‘Your goodness, kindness, faithfulness persists through the night. I will trust you. My whole life is found in your love.’ *
*I Will Trust You by Bryan and Katie Tornwalt 2013
What struck me is that my whole life is found in Your love, not just today or this year but my whole life, from birth till now! People lived, people died. You give purpose for each life. For all of those long lists of people, especially in the first books in the Old Testament, they are the names of real people who lived real lives. You cared about each one. Just like I cared about each of my students. I still care and pray for them. If I listed them all together for the 20 plus years I taught, there would probably be about 700 students. A long list of names that are real people!
