Bloom Where You’re Planted

In 1982 I had been a believer for about seven years.  I was beginning to recognize more and more when the Lord was speaking.  So I believe He prompted me to ‘print’ the words I felt were from Him.  My journaling has always been hand-written in cursive.  This was a great idea, logistically speaking, because printed words stood out clearly in my journals.  God knew the plans He had for me and my journal back then. These were my first ‘printed words’.*

From the journal. . . . December 1982 3:00am

This was one of those can’t-sleep-need-to-talk-to-God nights!  I had been at a reunion, of sorts, with a group of ladies from my first years  as a believer in Jesus.  For several years, we had weekly Bible Studies but hadn’t been together for about five years.  As I look back, those ladies (from three or four different churches) were foundational to my Christian walk and studying the Word of God.  I thank God for them.

However, after that evening I was disappointed that God didn’t seem to be the center of our gathering.  I was somewhat naïve I guess and perhaps judgmental, but the Lord put my focus onto my business!

“Oh Lord. What can I do for You? There was not a word about You tonight.  What are they doing for You, I wonder?. . . What am I doing for You? (I now think that was actually a question God was asking me.)

And I Believe God Said:

Love who I love.  Love those I bring across your path.  Do your job at home and I will bring you those to love.

Rom 13:8.    1The 3:12.

1982 was a very significant time in my life.  I had five kids and the youngest were two-year-old twin boys. I was active in my church and my husband was self-employed as a roofer.  I had plenty to do but I had ideas of going door to door, evangelizing, and bringing many to Jesus.  Ya know, like being a light or a missionary.   However, in this word I believe the Lord was clearly saying, “Stay home.  Bloom where you’re planted.  I’ll bring the opportunities to you.  They will naturally come across your path.”

I have remembered this word.  It reminds me to be alert for opportunities to share the good news of Jesus with those I come in contact with.  Not only when I am out and about, but also within my family.
