The Struggle is Real

Often times in our lives there are challenges and problems that we have no control over, for one reason or another.  In a marriage, you are affected by the decisions of your spouse, whether you agree with the decision or not.  Sometimes this can be a very good thing, turning out much better than you anticipated, but not always.  Other times you are the one making problems for your spouse by your bad decision.  It’s part of marriage and I like to think it’s never intentional!!

From the journal . . .  . November 1986

Lord, I’m so concerned about finances.  We needed $2,300.00 by a near date. Lord, can it be compared to the Newtons’ or the Muellers’ needs?  True, we aren’t missionaries and, true, we have worsened our situation by neglect.  But Lord, . . .  it’s happening to us; I have sought You and sought You about it. You know that I’m powerless to do anything about it, so I’ve entrusted it to You. Even more so, I’ve committed Mark’s growth to You (as much as it is in my power to do so).   I wish I could say ‘without wavering’ but there are times when I seem to take it back.

And I Believe God Said:

I’ll not leave you nor forsake you.  Trust Me now when things appear worse and I will bless you, and Mark also.  You deal with trusting Me and I’ll handle the rest – including Mark.

1Peter 5:6-7 Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you at the proper time, casting all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you.

Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart And do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him,And He will make your paths straight.

Luke 12:31  Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and he will give you everything you need.

Phil 4:6 Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.

I remember a conversation years later, when Mark assured me that I was the third in line to be worrying about our finances.  God, Mark and then me.  It was pretty sweet.

We have been married for almost 50 years and have had many financial struggles that I thought could take us down.  Yet, here we are!  The struggle is real but the answer is simple.  Trust in the Lord.  He is faithful.

  1. Such a good reminder, it is so hard to trust our people to God and what he can do in them, but it is what we are called to do. Trust and trust some more as soon as we do the peace and freedom comes.

    1. That’s so true Debi. I KNOW that I can’t do nearly the good for my peeps that God does, but I’m so often trying to do MY thing. So grateful for forgiveness and more chances. Love you Debi!
