College Years – Each Step of the Way

I graduated from high school in 1971.  I got married right out of high school and had five kids within the next nine years.  When the youngest were almost ten I felt called to go and get my teaching certificate.  I was thirty-seven and going to college was probably the scariest thing I had ever attempted!!!   In fact, when I got home after my first day, I went straight to the refrigerated and ate a quarter gallon of ice cream from the carton!  I know, right?!  There were many times when I didn’t know if I could go on.  My husband was self-employed, and I did his books, we had five kids, I was active in our church, and I had a compulsive desire to be an “A” student.

This entry was written in those college years.  My time was limited and as a result, I didn’t have as many words from the Lord as I had in other years.  Nonetheless, I was always desperate for God and continued to journal pretty much daily.  He led me, or I might say ‘pushed me’, every step of the way.

From the journal . . . . February 1992

. . . I love You.  I love our years together.  You are always faithful. You scold me sometimes but it’s in faithfulness.  All Your ways are perfect.

And I Believe God Said:

I am your God.  Look to Me.  Keep on with school.  You are afraid of things you are unfamiliar with.  Trust Me.  I will bring you through to the promise land.  I will use you.  This college time is not wasted.  Live.  Look to Me.  Look for Me.  I am with you each step of the way.

2 Chronicles 15:7 But ask for you, be strong and do not give up, for your work will be rewarded.
Joshua 1:9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.

Pray for Tiffany and speak of Me.  Speak of Me as you would of your best friend, not to convince or convert, just to let your love for Me show. Trust Me to work through you.  Let it be known that you are Mine.

Mathew 10:39. “Everyone who acknowledges me publicly here on earth, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven. NLT

  1. Diane, I was thinking about that the other day, trying to remember what age you were when you stated college, wow that was a late age but you did it, what an accomplishment. The only way we can do these overwhelming things is with God with us each step of the way one day at a time!

  2. Amen! It was a turn in my life that I hadn’t expected. A good turn. I was convinced, since having children, that I wanted to be a nurse. In fact, a few days before my commitment to the Lord I had gone to Bates or Clover Park technical school to look into the possibilities for nursing. When the Lord was leading, He slowed down that process and put roadblocks in my way until I saw that teaching was His plan for me!! So grateful for that! He always knows best!! Thanks for that reply!!!
