I am including the setting of this journal entry because I was temporarily but comfortably imprisoned upstairs. All I had was a chair, bible, pen, journal, and tea. For that time there were no other demands on me, and I was in a happy place!
From the journal . . . .October 1990
I’m upstairs this morning. Mark has me zippered in because he is spraying the living room. He likes what he’s doing . . .
Lord, You are so wise and good. You tell me things that soothe my soul. Mighty counselor! Who could possibly be better for me, than You?! You know me the best and love me the most. Yet, no one is wiser than You, God. With You in my life, I should be very, very, well adjusted. So, why do I get into such snits?
And I believe God Said:
Selfishness, putting your needs and desires ahead of anything or anyone else. Discipline comes when there is conflict, when your needs get in the way of someone else’s. Think of how often you get your way. Your needs are met. Many of your desires get met. Be thankful! In your family, there is more peace than strife. It would not be unreasonable, when you consider the ease in which you live, if each of you would be the one to bow to the other’s wishes.
Lord, what a concept! I have all I need for life and godliness. You provide it. If we claim to just want godliness, we need not be concerned with our rights. Lord, I believe my greatest need is to have times like this, with You! And look at me! I have it! When I am willing, that needs is always met.
2nd Peter 1:3 His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and virtue. TLV
Jeremiah 33:3 Call to Me and I will answer you, and I will tell you great and mighty things, which you do not know. NASB
Psalm 27:8 My heart has heard you say, “Come and talk with Me.”
And my heart responds, “Lord, I am coming.” TLV
Wouldn’t it be great if we could live life like this; to always be willing to seek what’s in the best interest for others and to always be able to have a good portion of time alone with God? La La Land? Maybe, but it’s something to work on. I believe Jesus does call us to this and if everyone would, that would be like Heaven on earth!!
