I had been talking with a friend (I’ll call him Jake) who wanted to do more for God but was skeptical because he had been so disappointed at his past attempts. I believe we have all been at this place and in fact, revisit it from time to time. We start out excited, hit a snag, feel incapable, and give up. I believe the Lord gave me a clear word concerning this, but I had some doubts. He then confirmed it from His word.
From the Journal . . . . March 1992
I told Jake there were three things he should ask himself.
1. Are you convinced that God wants to use you?
2. Are you convinced you want to be used?
3. Are you convinced God is the one who enables us to be used? Is He the one who can pull it off? I think those are helpful questions.
And I Believe God Said:
My people start out excited to do a work for Me. The enthusiasm carries them, but it is diligence and faith in Me that brings fruit from their labor. Often you quit before you reach the prize. It stops being exciting and you lose interest. Persevere. Don’t quit. Look to me and be faithful.
Mark 4:13-20.
The Lord brought up another hindrance we have, becoming bored or uninterested. Sadly, I can relate.
Lord, I’m not positive that this is completely from You. Oh God, please confirm. Here it is!
Hebrews 10:23 Let’s hold firmly to the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful; NASB
Hebrews 10:35-39 35 Therefore, do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward. 36 For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God, you may receive what was promised.
37 For yet in a very little while, He who is coming will come, and will not delay.
38 But My righteous one will live by faith; And if he shrinks back, My soul has no pleasure in him.
39 But we are not among those who shrink back to destruction, but of those who have faith for the safekeeping of the soul. NASB
Lord, thank You!! There is nothing so amazing as Your Living Word!!
