Just Do It

Sometimes when we consider our own resources, we don’t feel particularly valuable. At this time, I was very busy with my family, and we were struggling financially.  Could I afford to give away time or money for ministry?  I didn’t think so, but I wanted to be a good steward of what the Lord had given me. He had given me a love for people, but it was challenging to know what to do with that.

From the journal . . . . March 1990

God, I don’t have money, I don’t have much spare time, but I do have love from You and encouraging words to give.  At the same time, if I am following you, I know I won’t miss out on anything I need.

And I Believe God Said:

That’s right.  If you would always act on the things you know are right, you would receive one hundred fold, spiritually speaking.  I desire that for you.  I want you to do that for your good and because My will would be accomplished in your world.  It’s self that stops you.  When a kindness to extend to others enters your mind and you do, in fact, have the resources: time, and/or material, then do it.  I won’t call on you to sacrifice money, time, or even energy that you can’t afford to lose.   Pride? – yes.  Independence? – Yes.  Your own way? – yes, because your ways are not best for you.  I will never ask you to do something for someone else that won’t reap you an even greater blessing.  If you could truly receive this concept, nothing would stop you from bearing fruit.

Gal. 6:10 So then, while we have opportunity, let’s do good to all people, and especially to those who are of the household of the faith.
Luke 6:38 Give, and you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full—pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, running over, and poured into your lap. The amount you give will determine the amount you get back

Thank You Jesus.  I want to receive that and be different. I confess to selfishness and pride.  I need Your grace to do it.  Oh Father God, change me please.  If I could be selfless without pride coming in . . . well that would be a miracle.  You say I don’t need to sacrifice time, money, or energy.  All three are commodities I would like more of. You say I am to sacrifice pride, independence, and my own way. Amen.  I don’t understand it all now, but I am confident You will show me.
