Desperate

Addictions are very hard, to say the least.  My husband is a recovered alcoholic but hasn’t drunk for many years.  That wasn’t the case in 1995.  Without going into specifics let me just say that it was a very insecure and scary time for our family.  Often, I felt desperate.  Many of you can relate to “desperate,” and I believe the Lord’s words to me can help anyone.  They are straight from His words in the Bible, and He directed me to them on this day.

From the journal . . . . October 1995

O Lord, I love You more all the time.  I love You when I’m happy.  I love You when I’m not.  I love You when I’m desperate.  I desperately love You.

Yet, I do trust You.  You have never let me down. You have taken me places that I don’t want to go but You’ve never left me.   Faithful Lord, I want to be faithful, but if I’m not, O God, let You be true.  You know my fears.  I believe that You will always be with me.  It doesn’t get any better than that.  Not on this earth.

2 Timothy 2:13. If we are unfaithful, He remains faithful, for He cannot deny who He is.

And I Believe God Said:

For I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord; plans for welfare and not calamity to give you a future and a hope.

Jeremiah 29:11

For we know that God causes all things to work together for good, for those who love God and are called according to His purposes.

Romans 8:28

One thing God has spoken, two that I have heard. That You, oh God are strong and that You, oh Lord are loving.

Psalm 62:11-12

Those are my testimony verses and, yes, my life verses.

I wrote that in my journal almost thirty years ago, and God only knows how often those particular verses have comforted and inspired me. Or how often God has brought them to my mind to comfort those who are hurting. Come to think of it, just yesterday I felt directed to text someone the Jeremiah 29 verse. Before sending I wrote, “I know it’s a pretty traditional verse, but I think that’s because it is so good!” Later she texted me that the Lord used the word ‘calamity’ to bring more clarity to what she was feeling.

Heb 4:12 12 For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.

Isaiah 40:8 The grass withers and the flowers fade,
but the word of our God stands forever.”

Isaiah 55:11  It is the same with My word.
I send it out, and it always produces fruit.
It will accomplish all I want it to,
and it will prosper everywhere I send it.
