My friend, I’ll call Deanna, asked me this question years ago. She didn’t know the answer but urged me to seek the One who knows. She made this inquiry for a specific reason because of her role in our church body, but I think it’s a good question for anyone!
What is your passion in life?
From the journal . . . . February 2000
Lord, our head of women’s ministries wants me to find out what my passion is for the women. You know me better than anyone else, so You know what that is. I don’t want an answer just to satisfy her, but I want the truth. What is my passion?
And I Believe God Said:
Intimacy with God. Peace. Truth. A personal one-on-one relationship with God. A desire for the Word of God. You want women to love My words. You want them to hear from Me in their quiet times. You receive My love and you want them to also.
Psalm 119:1-2 Joyful are people of integrity,
who follow the instructions of the Lord.
2 Joyful are those who obey his laws
and search for him with all their hearts.
Psalm 27:7-8Hear me as I pray, O Lord.
Be merciful and answer me!
8 My heart has heard you say, “Come and talk with me.”
And my heart responds, “Lord, I am coming.”
Lord, I also hate for women to feel shut out or excluded.
I pondered this for a couple weeks and reread it several times. Then I wrote:
As I think about this, I realize how true it is. I want women to rely so much on God that when people disappoint them, they aren’t devastated. I love people but we can’t help but disappoint each other at times. However, we can always entrust ourselves to God and “He who hopes in God will not be disappointed.”
Ps. 22:4-5 Our ancestors trusted in you,
and you rescued them.
5 They cried out to you and were saved.
They trusted in you and were never disgraced.
Romans 5:4-5 And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation. 5 And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love.
