Encouraging Moments for You! That’s the name I believe God wanted for this blog of mine. In my early Christian days, my mom told me I was an encourager. I thought she was too, but she said I was an encourager like her mom. And Granny was for sure, even though not clearly a Christian, she always encouraged me! My mom was certainly an encourager but in a quieter way. Me quiet? Not so much.
My life is filled with encouragers! So many of you reading this have encouraged me and I continually see people encouraging people. Many years ago I received a word from the Lord from another person. She said that God said I was to encourage people because the body of Christ needs encouragement. I suspect that is why many of you do it too. You see a need and that’s how you respond!
About twenty years after that I wrote in my journal while reading 1 Corinthians 13.
From the journal . . . . September 1999
1 Corinthians 13 . . . have love. Faith, hope and love. Love is the best. More than other gifts.
And God Said to Me:
Love is to give away. Give it freely. You won’t always be understood by others, but I see your heart and your motives. Don’t give up. Don’t let fear or pride of looking weird or being misunderstood prevent you from loving. That’s your calling from Me. When you love – show it.
Lord, I can encourage. I do that because of Your love. It may not bring honor to me. It may not look cool, but when I encourage, it’s to love. So, I should not withhold it. Lord, thank You for Your love that is worth more than anything I could ever give up!
Hebrews 10:24-25 and let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds, 25 not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near.
1 Thessalonians 5:11 Therefore encourage one another and build up one another, just as you also are doing.
Romans 15:5 “May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you the same attitude of mind toward each other that Christ Jesus had.” NASB 1995
So my friends, I am happy to pass this along to ALL who encourage!!
1 Corinthians 13
If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but do not have love, I have become a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 If I have the gift of prophecy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge; and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. 3 And if I give all my possessions to feed the poor, and if I surrender my body to be burned, but do not have love, it profits me nothing.
4 Love is patient, love is kind and is not jealous; love does not brag and is not arrogant, 5 does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered, 6 does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; 7 bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
8 Love never fails; but if there are gifts of prophecy, they will be done away; if there are tongues, they will cease; if there is knowledge, it will be done away. 9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part; 10 but when the perfect comes, the partial will be done away. 11 When I was a child, I used to speak like a child, think like a child, reason like a child; when I became a man, I did away with childish things. 12 For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face; now I know in part, but then I will know fully just as I also have been fully known. 13 But now faith, hope, love, abide these three; but the greatest of these is love.
