Lord, it’s Christmas week. Can I have a fresh Christmas blog post for my people? Your people. Do I dare trust You and myself for this?
I listened to the song, Light of the Stable*, for worship practice tonight. The Christmas song says,“Hail, Hail, to the Guiding light that brought us tonight to our Savior”
(*Youtube, Light of the Stable 3:16min Sidewalk Prophets, Maranatha Music.)
Lord, You sent Your star to guide the wise men. These kings went searching when they saw Your light in the sky. They knew the significance and had to follow, no matter how far! They didn’t see an angel but their sign was a star in the sky because they always studied the night skies and, Lord, You spoke to them that way.
Matt 2:1-6 NASB 95 Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, magi from the east arrived in Jerusalem, saying, 2 “Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we saw His star in the east and have come to worship Him.” 3 When Herod the king heard this, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him. 4 Gathering together all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he inquired of them where the Messiah was to be born. 5 They said to him, “In Bethlehem of Judea; for this is what has been written by the prophet:
6 ‘And you, Bethlehem, land of Judah,
Are by no means least among the leaders of Judah;
For out of you shall come forth a Ruler
Who will shepherd My people Israel.’”
Wise men search for Jesus. They came from the East where they first saw the star, and they arrived in Jerusalem when Jesus was born. Good timing! Or should I say, “God’s timing”?
And I Believe God Said:
Daughter, you are seeking for blog material. Why wouldn’t I give you the help you need? I Am a good father and teacher.
Matt 7:11 If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give what is good to those who ask Him!
His wisdom is that which leads to salvation. The wise men saw what the star was revealing. They knew it was the newborn king of the Jews.
Proverbs 9:10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom,
And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.
John 17:3 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom,
And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.
Lord, why were they so interested in a Jewish king?
They were interested because of the mighty sign in the sky. They spent their lives looking at the night skies. When this new star appeared, they were compelled to follow it because they knew the God who created the stars was leading them. They had to follow.
The shepherds also had to follow. The angels in the sky had told them about the baby who is the Messiah. Oddly enough, the angel also said this king of the Jews would be sleeping in a feeding trough. So, they had to see for themselves!
The star and the angels pointed to Me. Not everyone saw them but those who did told others. They took action.
We also are to take action. We are to take the Christmas story to others. I think of the song Go Tell it on the Mountain:
“Go Tell it on the Mountain over the hills and everywhere, Go tell it on the mountain that Jesus Christ is born!“
We weren’t there to see the star. We didn’t hear or see the angels. We didn’t get to talk to the witnesses firsthand.
But God had a plan for us, just as He had a plan for those scribes and prophets from the beginning of time to bring us the Old Testament Writings. He chose and anointed His special servants to transcribe His Holy words. The wise men studied the scriptures and the skies. Their findings brought them to search out the Messiah, King of the Jews.
Centuries later the Lord again anointed and appointed His special servants to tell and transcribe the good news of King Jesus! The Bible is our Guiding Light that brings us to the Savior! And we must, in the power of the Holy Spirit, spread the Good News as well!
Merry Christmas!!
