When I am seeking God about something and I ask Him a question, I generally trust that the thing that comes into my mind is from Him, unless it’s obviously not. It’s a matter of trusting Him because He designed my brain. I have added confidence that it is Him when it is not an expected response.
From the journal . . . . August 2001
*Dorothy suggested that I ask You what You thought of the women’s time on Tuesday. Hmm. What comes to my mind is that there could have been a short preach. With an invitation to commit or recommit to You. WOW Lord – that is a new thought that I haven’t really had before. Must be YOU!
And I Believe God Said:
Women are sometimes more comfortable confessing and admitting weaknesses in a setting away from men. There were women there who needed to come back to Me. You spoke My words, but you didn’t give an opportunity for the women to respond. It’s not about who is giving an invitation (you in this case). It’s about relationships. My relationships with individual women.
I want to use your voice. I give you My words, but I also want you to express My heart in your own words. You don’t always have My heart, but I know you won’t go against Me. It’s okay for you to say, “I believe this is God’s heart” and then use your words.
God calls us to proclaim what He has done for us in our lives.
Psalm 145:6 Men shall speak of the power of Your awesome acts,
And I will tell of Your greatness.
Psalm 107:22 Let them also offer sacrifices of thanksgiving,
And tell of His works with joyful singing.
He also calls us to encourage one another daily.
Heb. 3:13 But encourage one another day after day, as long as it is still called “Today,” so that none of you will be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin.
It sometimes feels presumptuous to proclaim His words to others, but how else can we proclaim Him? The prophets of old often had unpopular messages to give to the people. These words were directly from God. They risked and often lost their lives to be faithful to what the Lord was doing.
Jesus speaking to the religious leaders:
Luke 11:47 Woe to you! For you build the tombs of the prophets, and it was your fathers who killed them.
When Elijah was in the cave at Horeb:
1 Kings 19:10 “I have been very zealous for the Lord, the God of hosts; for the sons of Israel have forsaken Your covenant, torn down Your altars and killed Your prophets with the sword. And I alone am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.”
It’s not like that for me for two reasons.
One: I am not a prophet. I believe I do hear from the Lord, but I’m not always sure it is from the Lord, and there have been times that what I thought I heard did not come about. A prophet is always right.
Deut 18:21-22 You may say in your heart, ‘How will we know the word which the Lord has not spoken?’ 22 When a prophet speaks in the name of the Lord, if the thing does not come about or come true, that is the thing which the Lord has not spoken. The prophet has spoken it presumptuously; you shall not be afraid of him.
Jeremiah 16:17 Thus says the Lord of hosts,
“Do not listen to the words of the prophets who are prophesying to you.
They are leading you into futility;
They speak a vision of their own imagination,
Not from the mouth of the Lord.
Two: I’m not risking my life.
In conclusion, I would say be encouraged by these words I post. Always ask God for confirmation and search the scriptures. My hope is that He would encourage you in your walk with Him. And that He will give you the faith and confidence to believe He wants to speak to you as well.
May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love from God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all. 2 Corinthians 13:14 NLT
All scripture is from NASB 1995 unless otherwise noted.
