Metacognition is basically the awareness of one’s thoughts and thinking processes.  Thinking about how you think!  

I learned that word in college and I loved it because I tend to think about my brain a lot. It’s one of the greatest wonders and mysteries of God’s creations. God is the foundation of my thoughts, but I know I’m capable of evil thoughts not from Him.  He knows my every thought, and He also knows my feelings.  He understands it all and loves me anyway.  The same is true for you.

Listening for His voice and trusting He is speaking require faith.  I really want my readers to hear from Him, and I know He wants that too!  There is nothing of value I can give apart from Him.

From the journal . . . October 1997

Lord, You know I love You.  I love Your word and Your people that tell about You. I pray each morning for my family, parents, leadership at PCF, and assorted others.  I pray for Your full armor every day and I pray other specific Bible verses. 

Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm. ¹⁴ Stand firm therefore, having girded your loins with truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, ¹⁵ and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; ¹⁶ in addition to all, taking up the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. ¹⁷ And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God (Ephesians 6:13-17).

I think it’s a good combination of prayer and Bible. 

And I journal.  I talk to or maybe at You.  I hope it’s with You.  I guess I imagine You listening intently or sometimes waiting for me to run down. 

Lord, You see my heart so clearly. As I feebly try to express myself, I wonder if my words seem funny to You.  You clearly have access to my mind, so You know what I am trying to express, regardless of what words I speak.  

Psalm 139 O Lord, You have searched me and known me.
² You know when I sit down and when I rise up;
You understand my thought from afar.
³ You scrutinize my path and my lying down,
And are intimately acquainted with all my ways.
⁴ Even before there is a word on my tongue,
Behold, O Lord, You know it all (Psalm 139:1-4).

When I speak with people, they obviously don’t have access to my brain but whatever I do, I hope to express You or at least Your great love.  Could I possibly do that without my mind?

And The Lord Said to Me:

Do you think I don’t like your mind?   I created it and I am there.  You have asked Me in and I renew your mind. Don’t be afraid to think or use your mind.  I’ll be there.  I can give you words to express yourself for My sake. Focus on Me but don’t fear things that come into your mind.  Give your mind, brain, and thoughts to Me.  Make that decision continually and be alert. You will learn what thoughts are carnal and what are wisdom.

But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere (James 3:17).

Wisdom’s instruction is to fear the Lord , and humility comes before honor (Prov 15:33).

When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom (Pro. 11:2).

If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you (James 1:5).

I am God.  Your God.   Continue consuming My word.  Don’t let up – it’s good to trust Me in you and use My word as a check.  A safety.    When in doubt, always trust My word:  Written on tablets, but also on your heart.  As I instruct you the two sources won’t conflict. 

See this clearly: God the Creator made you and all that you are. Jesus the Son is the Word of God made flesh, and the Holy Spirit brings My written Word and My living word in your heart together as one. Look for truth in that way.

God, for His own reasons has chosen graciously to give me many more words from Him since that time in 1997.  In fact, almost every year He seems to give me more than the year before. I suspect this is because, as I continue to read, study, and meditate on the Bible, I recognize His voice more clearly.
