Throughout the years of following the Lord, I have been heavily influenced by daily devotional books. Oswald Chambers’, My Utmost for His Highest has probably spoken to me the most. In part because I have read it so often, but also because God speaks to me through him. (As soon as it became digital, I downloaded it to my phone where it is handy at any time!) I was always so amazed at how timely some of his entries were for me personally.
Now, with my blog, sometimes someone will tell me it’s exactly what they need or that it is confirmation of something the Lord is speaking to them. I know that is possible because He has done it for me many times.
From the journal . . . January 2015
Oswald Chambers. Lord, I read this because I want to be open to what You may want to speak to me. I know that You can speak to me other ways, but You have used Oswald Chambers before.
Is there anything that You would say to me now? The song from Pandora Radio says “Lord, I want to know Your heart” and that is true. I DO want to know Your heart. I will mute it to see if You will just speak in my silence.
My soul, wait in silence for God only,
For my hope is from Him (Psalm 62:5).
And God said to me:
You believe My words in the Bible. You search for the meaning of the verses so you can apply them to your life. You can’t always remember exact verses, but they are in you. My Word is living. The Word has living power beyond what you think.
For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires (Hebrews 4:12).
Yes, see where My Words apply in your life. Speak them and know that there is more to My Words than just meaning. Don’t be overly concerned about the translation you use. The Spirit in you reveals truth.
But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you (John 14:26).
My Spirit, My Father, and I are One. We are with you always to protect you from your fear, the fear of being deceived. As long as you want Us – We are here. That’s what you need to know.
May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all (2 Cor. 13:14).
Lord, You are so amazing! LOL. When I start to think maybe I’m making this up, You remind me that You made my mind and You beat off the maker of lies.
When I write these posts I capitalize all of God’s pronouns. I favor the translations that do the same but not all of them do, even though I believe they are authentic translations. The Trinity is a little tricky for me grammatically but I do my best and my awesome editors give me great input! The point is, God is the Highest consideration in everything!
Name above all names!
